British Touring Car Championship 2007
Home advantage for Motorbase Performance
Motorbase Performance will not have far to travel for the next rounds of the 2007 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. A three-mile drive down the A20 will take the team from its Wrotham base to the famous Brands Hatch circuit for rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the championship.
It will be the second visit of the season to Brands Hatch for Motorbase's pair of SEAT Toledo Cupras as drivers Matt Allison and Tom Ferrier take to the 1.2-mile Indy circuit next weekend, 18/19 August. Returning to its local track gives Motorbase Performance a real opportunity to evaluate its progress during its maiden season in the BTCC.
Matt Allison, from Norwich, will be hoping to continue the recent run of form that has seen him finish five of the last nine races inside a very competitive top ten, in what is the UK's premier racing series.
Allison commented, "We've made some good progress recently and we are now much closer to the front. We've got to find a little bit more pace in qualifying. If we can start fifth or sixth on the grid, then I'm sure we'll be able to finish fifth or sixth. This will be the first time we've returned to a circuit, so it will be nice to have some data to compare ourselves against."
Tom Ferrier is another Brands Hatch local. Hailing from Bletchingley in Surrey, Ferrier is looking for his strongest outing since joining the team at Donington Park in July.
"I'm mega excited", said Ferrier. "It's my home race, and for the team as well, so I'm really looking forward to it. I think it's going to be bloody close around Brands. It's not the easiest of places to overtake, so if we could get on the front row with the reverse grid for the third race, get a good start and then we might just be able to spring a result."
Motorbase Performance team principal David Bartrum always looks forward to racing in front of a home crowd. "It's good to be close to home because we always get great support", commented Bartrum. "Starting the season here wasn't necessarily the best thing for us because everybody wanted to see what we were doing right at the start, but now we're a bit more settled I'm really looking forward to racing at Brands. I genuinely hope we can have a really strong weekend."
Next Sunday's race action kicks off with the first of three BTCC races at 10.50am. There will be live coverage from Brands Hatch on ITV1 and ITV4 throughout the afternoon.
