Gary Eastwood started racing too late in life to make it a career. Like a lot of wannabe racing drivers, getting involved with karting at a tender age of 40. Although no spring chicken he went on to win the Club Kart Endurance Championship in the Rotax Max class in 2002.
In 2003 he joined the Palmer Audi Championship, competing in a couple of races before embarking on a full season in 2004. Finishing fourth at Monza, fifth at Brands Hatch on the GP circuit. But his best achievement was getting fastest lap at the Spa Franco-Champs race.
Gary joined ex-GT Champion Calum Lockie in a BMW in the 2004 Britcar championship race at Brands Hatch, finishing second.
He took the realistic approach '‘I was physically too big to stay in single-seaters, Sports cars is where I want to be now. Also I am too old to make a career as a racing driver'.
In 2005 he moved into the British GT Championship at the wheel of a Porsche 996 GT3 car, at Thruxton he finished fourth in class when partnered by another ex champion, Mark Cole, the 2002 Porsche Carrera Cup champion. Then going one better at the final round at Silverstone, finishing third in class with Sam Edwards.
