Man Behind the Lens

Peter Still, our man behind the lens, shares a selection of his favourite pics and a few words about the media day at Rockingham in preparation for the 2008 BTCC season.

Has it really been 6 months? Seems like a lifetime! I now know it's getting close, had my first real smell of hot brakes and burning rubber at the Rock during the media day.

Bet they don't do patches for those addictive stimulants!

The Boss, David Bartrum, has put this section together and asked me to scribble some words telling what I see and my thoughts of the events along with some of my images. (I think it is just a ploy to get some free pictures from me!) I have started with a rather long ramble, yes they will be ramblings, and trust me, they will get shorter as the season goes on.

Anyway, as I was saying, Media day! I needed to go to the media day to get some practice in. Not that I haven't been using my cameras. It's just I have not been pointing them at moving vehicles for a while. It also reminded me of all those people I haven't seen since Thruxton last year! Some fatter, some, well one in particular, annoyingly thinner, but all very much older!

I am actually looking forward to the 2008 BTCC season. More cars, more drivers, new faces and familiar faces. This year sees a good selection of tracks on the calendar, at one point we almost had ten different tracks to race at, but that has just changed back to nine. There are also more drivers capable of competing at the top! At a recent test day the top 16 was covered by just one second!

If all teams have spent as much time as Motorbase have during the 'close season', sourcing cars, finding drivers, talking to sponsors, then they will be chomping at the bit to get out of the workshops and head to Brands Hatch for the first round.

Anyway, Media day is over, had our one-and-only free lunch from TOCA (despite what some race fans think), shook hands with people we only really see once a year. Even heard some people greeting one another with a 'Happy New Year'? Weird bunch these journalists!

Come the first round at Brands Hatch, the sun will be out, just a slight breeze, 30 degrees, oh and Stuart Oliver will win all three races!
