Jonny began his career racing karts before graduating the Scottish Formula Ford Zetec Championship in 2003, where he finished he debut season in 3rd place overall. Moving into the Clio Cup in 2004, Jonny made his mark during his two seasons, claiming 3rd spot before claiming his first title on 2005.

Three consecutive seasons in the Seat Cupra Championship followed, two of which ended with Jonny being crowned overall champion in 2007 and 2008 before he made his highly anticipated British Touring Car Championship debut in 2009 with the Motorbase Performance-run Airwaves BMW team. Jonny had a strong debut season, finishing 9th overall and as top rookie for the season but lack of funding sadly ended his chances of a return the following season.

2011 saw Jonny move into sportscar racing as he contested the British GT Championship in the Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin, ending the season in 3rd place. Jonny returned to the British GT grid in 2012 claiming the first win for the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 whilst also making his debut in the Spa 24 hours alongside an appearance in the FIA WECC at Silverstone where he finished 5th.

Jonny became an Aston Martin factory driver in 2013 and saw him go on the claim the overall British GT Teams' title with Beechdean whilst contesting the Spa 24 hours once more as part of the Aston Martin Racing line up. A 5th place finish in the British GT whilst claiming runners-up in the Baku World Challenge rounded off his 2014 season which also saw him awarded the Allan Simonsen Trophy.

2015 was Jonny's most successful season to date with parallel campaigns in the British GT and Blancpain Endurance Series, alongside appearances in the WEC and Gulf 12 hours. The season also saw Jonny finally rewarded with the British GT championship title after taking three race wins in the Beechdean-run Aston Martin Vantage V12.

Jonny returns to the Motorbase squad once more in 2016 to partner Ahmad Al Harthy and new signing Devon Modell in the #44 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 as the trio contest the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series.
