Motorbase Performance: New Driver Line Up

Motorbase Performance has staked its claim on the 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship with a new driver line up that will be hard to beat.

Drivers Tim Harvey, Michael Caine and Phil Quaife offer a mix of experience and youth, but more importantly, a determination to win.

Heading the three-car team in the all-new Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car is multiple race winner Tim Harvey. Tim has won races in every Championship he has taken part in. Arguably the pinnacle of his achievements was winning the 1992 BTCC with BMW. Twice British Sports Car Champion in 1989 and 1990 he has also contested Le Mans 4 times, winning his class in 1987. He is a double winner of the Oulton Park Gold Cup in 2000 and 2001 joining previous winners Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and many others. Recently Tim has made sporadic albeit successful outings in the British GT Championship, winning alongside various drivers in 2004/5.

Tim missed the chance of being crowned Champion in the 2004 Carrera Cup where he led the Championship until the last race of the year only to be denied the title after 2 controversial incidents. Something Tim intends to put right in 2006.

Michael Caine, who is widely regarded as one of the best sportscar drivers in Britain, joins the team with a wealth of driving experience. He was the Caterham Superlight Champion in 1998, winning the TVR Championship in 2000, after being runner-up the previous year. Between 2000 and 2004 he was a TVR works driver competing in the ALMS. In 2005 he was competing in the British GT Championship driving a Porsche 996 GT3 RS.

Phil Quaife has joined the team after only two years of circuit racing. These have been spent competing in the Radical Enduro Championship, taking one win in 2004 and an impressive 12 wins from 12 starts in selective rounds in the 2005 Championship, where he went on to finish as runner-up. During 2005 he also raced in selected rounds of the British GT Championship driving a Porsche GT3 Cup car, finishing the season on a high note at Silverstone, not only by putting the car on pole position, but also going on to take the win.

All three drivers are proven race winners and under the guidance of team owner David Bartrum, success for the team seems almost assured.
