News 2007: Competing in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB

The next weekend in the 2007 motor racing season will take the Kent-based Motorbase Performance team to the other end of the country and the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire over the weekend of 2/3 June.

While Gareth Howell and Matt Allison handle the team's SEAT Cupra Toledos in rounds ten, 11 and 12 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, Sam Hancock, Steven Kane and Andy Britnell will contest rounds seven and eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.

Thruxton was a bitter-sweet weekend for the touring car squad, while Kane dominated the Carrera Cup GB races to move to within just two points of championship leader Tim Harvey.

Allison was stunning at Thruxton as he worked the Toledo right up along the very top works cars. Only an unfortunate clash under braking for the chicane in the second race prevented him improving on the seventh place he scored in the opening race and even challenging for a podium finish. Some mighty work by the team got him out for the third race as Howell drove a great race to take seventh place and finish his weekend on a high.

Buoyed by a tremendous weekend at Thruxton, Howell and Allison will now take on the challenge of Croft, a circuit expected to suit the Super 2000 cars. With a real mix of corners, and a number of medium and slow speed turns, Croft always delivers exciting racing and the Motorbase Performance drivers will surely be right in the thick of the action.

In the Carrera Cup GB, Kane is the man in charge at the moment, having scored two superb victories at Thruxton. He now heads to Croft just two points behind championship leader Tim Harvey and could move ahead if he can beat Harvey again. Racing the Porsche at Croft will be another new challenge for Steven, but he is showing tremendous form every time out.

Meanwhile, Sam Hancock is making good progress with his Motorbase Porsche and is getting ever closer to a first podium finish. In the pro-am category, Andy Britnell will be aiming to get back on terms with category leader Nigel Rice. Britnell scored one of his best ever Carrera Cup results at Croft a couple of years ago, and will be aiming to repeat that form and claw back the small points' lead that Rice has established.

With five cars competing in five races, it is going to be another busy weekend for the team at Motorbase Performance. For those not able to be at Croft, the full Sunday race programme will be screened on the Setanta satellite channel. In addition, the third BTCC race of the day will also be broadcast live on ITV3, along with highlights of the earlier races, starting at around 3pm.
