News 2006: Motorbase Takes Four Carrera Cup Podiums at Croft
Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain
16th July
Motorbase Performance scored no less than four podium finishes during rounds nine and ten of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Croft over the weekend (15/16 July).
After a six-week mid-season break, the championship resumed at the North Yorkshire track and the Motorbase cars of Tim Harvey, Michael Caine and Phil Quaife were right at the head of the action as the temperature soared under brilliant blue skies.
Harvey twice finished third overall to remain right in contention for the overall drivers' title, while Quaife had another stunning weekend to twice win the pro-am category and extend his points' lead. Caine, meanwhile, ran a strong fourth in the opening race to finish close behind Harvey but was out of luck in the second race when a transmission problem off the grid forced him to retire.
In the opening race, Harvey ran second for the first 12 laps, but was under constant pressure from championship rival Damien Faulkner. Finally, under braking for Tower Corner on the 13th lap, Faulkner was just able to dive ahead. Although Harvey quickly re-challenged, he eventually finished third with Caine running him close.
Quaife set the pro-am pace in qualifying and continued that form in the opening race on Saturday afternoon. In finishing seventh overall, he won the pro-am category and extended his points lead over Sam Edwards. "It was very hot out there and I had to work hard. But I held in there," reported Quaife.
Harvey slotted into third behind Danny Watts and Faulkner in the second race and chased his Irish rival for much of the race and was still only just over a second behind at the flag. "We changed a couple of things on the car after the first race and we were all so evenly matched," said Tim. The result keeps Harvey second in the championship, just six points behind Faulkner with 10 races still to run.
"It's been an excellent weekend," said Quaife after another commanding pro-am victory. "I'm absolutely over the moon with the two races. I couldn't ask for much better!"
The Carrera Cup season continues at Donington Park in Leicestershire on 29/30 July when the three Motorbase Performance cars will again be chasing victory and podium finishes.
