News 2006: Harvey, Caine and Quaife for Motorbase

Porsche Carrera Cup GB
13 March

Tim Harvey, Michael Caine and Phil Quaife will form an incredibly strong driver line-up at Motorbase Performance for the 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign.

Team boss David Bartrum was delighted to unveil the team's strongest ever driver squad, having worked all through the winter to secure the line-up that he wanted. "This is the dream line-up for Motorbase," says Bartrum. "This will be our chance to show the world what we can do. We want to chase the drivers' title and the team title."

Harvey has been a title contender for the last two years and will join Motorbase with continued support from Datapulse and Porsche Centre Solihull. "It's a new start, with a new car and a new team and I feel a lot of fresh impetus to get the job done," says Harvey.

"I think the new car will suit me well," continues Harvey. "Obviously Richard Westbrook has a head start on all of us from racing the new car in Supercup last year. It will be a cracking season and the standard will be higher than ever."

Quaife is the young gun on the squad and Bartrum is confident that the 19-year old will be one of the rising stars of the Carrera Cup. "Phil's been going very well indeed in testing over the last couple of weeks. The new car really suits him and he's getting on extremely well," says Bartrum.

Caine, meanwhile, moves to Carrera Cup after several seasons in British GT. "Everybody has worked so hard to do this," he says. "Carrera Cup is the only thing I wanted to do for 2006 and I can't wait to get out in the car," he says. He tested the car for the first time at Silverstone today (Monday 13 March).

"To be up the front with the top boys would be fantastic. I learnt a lot in the Porsche GT car last year and hopefully that will stand me in good stead. What a benchmark – having Tim Harvey as a team mate!"

The final element of support for Caine's campaign was provided by racers Andy and Gary Britnell, who stepped in with the backing needed to complete his deal.
