News 2006: British GT 2006
21st May
In 2006, Motorbase Performance is busy with race programmes in three of the most important race championships in Britain. Alongside BTCC and Porsche Carrera Cup campaigns, the team is contesting the Avon Tyres British GT Championship with a Porsche 996 GT3 Cup car.
The season opened at Oulton Park in Cheshire over the Easter weekend with a pair of hour-long races run in bright and dry conditions. Racing the Motorbase Porsche were Phil Quaife and Gary Eastwood.
The car had very different fortunes in the two qualifying sessions, posting third fastest time in the GTC category in the first session but slipping to 13th in GTC in the second session. The races netted one 11th place and one non-finish.
Next on the schedule was Donington Park on May 20/21, when a two-hour race ran in trying conditions as ran swept across the Leicestershire track. This time, Quaife was partnered by Stuart Moseley, and they immediately demonstrated their pace by qualifying tenth fastest in the 28-car field and, more importantly, third fastest in GTC.
As fortunes ebbed and flowed through the two-hour race of ever-changing weather, Quaife and Moseley raced hard in pursuit of a podium finish, supported by some slick pit work from the Motorbase crew. However, after two hours of flat-out racing, they were fourth in GTC to chalk up the team's best British GT result so far in 2006.
